The Plan
We started our journey in 1996 with the first Parkersburg South High School Crew leasing space at the old Parkersburg Waterworks facility alongside fellow rowers from Parkersburg High School and the Ohio Valley Rowing Club. While this facility allowed us to store our equipment and access the Ohio River, a home on the southside of Parkersburg has always been the goal. In 2011, we were approached with the opportunity to move our rowing base to a location on the Little Kanawha River just 4.5 miles from PSHS and 3 miles from the Erickson All-Sports Facility. While the location is ideal with its proximity to the high school and the ability to row on calm waters, our shells, oars and other rowing equipment have continued to be exposed to the elements.
In 2013, through the donation of time and materials by several Boosters and local businesses, we were able to construct a temporary shelter. However this shelter is not large enough to store all our shells or provide the level of long-term protection rowing equipment requires. The team also does not have a permanent and secure location for an onsite workout room, changing rooms, restrooms, meeting room, and storage for tools, slings, and other necessary equipment.
Current Facilities
New Boathouse
Our vision for the new Boathouse is a place that ensures our athletes have the resources to thrive for generations to come. This boathouse will include bays for eights and smaller boats, a maintenance bay, bathrooms, locker rooms, a meeting room, and an ergometer/workout area.
